Boys Will Be Boys - January 12, 2015

We were fortunate to get away from cold weather and fly to Mexico's Playa del Carmen for vacation in December.  The boys enjoyed the beach, activities at the pool,  and soaking up the sun.  The week was much too short!  But memories will live on forever...

Boys Will Be Boys - November 2014

It is November but the weather has been relatively mild so that outdoor soccer is still possible.  However, with the daylight savings time, it gets dark at 5pm and we had to get a portable light so the boys could still play outside before dinner.  I was able to take some night time soccer shots. :-)

During weekends there's lots of horseplay going on.

Boys Will Be Boys - October 2014

We've been enjoying sunny and warm fall weather and last weekend we took a trip to the beautiful Allerton Park in Monticello, Illinois.  I had my 6 year old son and his little sister who's almost 5.  They're virtually inseparable and growing up like twins.  They play together and fight together.  I wanted to show their close relationship and the boy--in the role of a leader and an older brother-- while she's always one step behind but trying to keep up.  So this post is unusual and a bit of a departure in that it's not just about "boys" but it still  shows "boyhood" and connection to his younger sibling.

Boys Will Be Boys - August 2014

We had a busy month and I didn't do a whole lot of shooting and when I did I only had one of my boys--my six year old--who is a much more willing subject to photograph.  When he and older brother are together I often play the role of a peace maker rather than a photographer. :-)

These series of images are a photo journal of sorts of how a day might look like as they represent activities on any given day.  The first two images were shot first thing in the morning with hard light streaming through our east facing window.  He is doing his morning stretch on the floor and then he appears to be his more playful self.

Boys Will Be Boys July - 2014

There's a four year age difference between my two sons and only recently have they started to come together to play.  They are both competitive and each one wants to be in charge which often leads to squabbles so that when they do cooperate I run for the camera!  Here I documented cooperative play as they work together on a "science kit".  I just love it when they are so close!
